Weekly Roundup #71: The Iron Throne and Memorial Day
Hello, it’s me! I’m back after a few week hiatus and, woohoo, it’s summer! Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and sent out their thanks to those who have made Memorial Day possible. Anything new in your lives? Catch me up! As this week is a short week and I’m going to be working Gov Ball, I won’t be posting next week as well. Life starts to get a liiittle crazy in the summer, right? Just me? I doubt it. Alright, obviously we all watched Game of Thrones, but, if you haven’t, come back later because there are spoilers for the final episode throughout this roundup! Honestly, it’s basically all I talk about…that and Halsey, my one true love. Have a fantastic short week everyone and we’ll talk in two weeks!

Everything is Illuminated, Jonathan Safran Foer.
In the end, Game Of Thrones sings a song of ice, fire, and thematic consistency (experts), TV Club. This is a really great article that better dissects my own feelings about the show’s ending. Also, the ending (of the final observations bit) actually made me tear up.
Just How Much of the ‘Game of Thrones’ Ending Was George R.R. Martin’s? The Ringer. I’ve only read the first book so far so I had NO IDEA the books were so insanely far behind. These was cool to see each character’s probability of their book storyline matching the show broken down.
'Game of Thrones' series finale recap: A disaster ending that fans didn't deserve, USA Today. Lol, what a title.
Game Of Thrones Will Never Answer These Questions & It's Killing Us, Refinery29. I was expecting this article to be kind of, well, dumb, but, wow, these were mostly good questions and now I’m even more irritated.
Gwendoline Christie Predicted The Exact 'Game Of Thrones' Ending Years Ago, Nylon. I love her and Nikolaj’s back and forth.
HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series and spinoffs: everything we know so far, Vox. I’m not ready and yet…I NEED TO FILL THE GOT VOID!
Behold Australia’s Grossest Drinking Tradition: The Shoey, The New York Times. Lolllll, of course, Posty is the cover shot. The poor guy has the worst rep for being gross and dirty, and here we are. If I ever did it, I’d pull a Kacey Musgraves and bring my own badass shoe.
Morehouse College grads are surprised by a billionaire's promise to pay off their student loans, CNN. This is incredible. I’m not crying…we’re ALL crying!! 😭
Halsey's 'Nightmare' May Not Become Her Biggest Single, But It's Her Most Important One, Billboard. “The song and its corresponding video arrive at a time in which Halsey is in the middle of a hit streak, and it will be interesting to see whether pop radio welcomes a song as charged and unabashedly pissed-off as ‘Nightmare.’ ”
Halsey Starts A Feminist Riot With Cara Delevingne, Debbie Harry, And More In "Nightmare," Nylon. What a crew 💪🏼
The Jersey Shore Town You Should Visit This Summer, Based on Your Zodiac Sign, PureWow. This is absurd, but, I mean, I had to see if mine was accurate! I was pleasantly surprised…hello, Asbury! 😉
Taco Bell Is Giving Out Free Doritos Locos Tacos in June, so Here’s How to Get One, Cosmopolitan. Um, yes, please! 🌮🌮🌮
New Coke Is Making a Comeback Thanks to Stranger Things — Despite Being a Flop 30 Years Ago, People. I actually kind of love this… Advertising is so pervasive these days, they need more and more entertaining ways to capture people’s attention and I feel like this succeeded.
FKA twigs Shares New Issue of Instagram Zine AVANTgarden, Pitchfork. She’s just too cool for us mere mortals.
Jonas Brothers, Wonderland. I like them more now than I ever did, but it’s mostly because of who they’re married to…still listen to their music the same amount though (aka rarely). However, I definitely appreciate that they each completely separated to “find themselves” after they started to lose their connection together.
Umm, Millie Bobby Brown's Amy Winehouse Impression Is, Like, Scary Good, PureWow. As they say, “At this point, we shouldn't be surprised that Millie Bobby Brown is good at, like, everything.”
Listening
Firefly 2019 is nearly here!! I spend hours every year creating a playlist for this festival and spending even longer listening to it. Literally months…but I love it! It allows me to go through each artist one by one—get to know them or rediscover them or even remind myself of them—and then explore their music even further, which I feel is really important before seeing an artist live. I will say, I slacked pretty hard this year, it’s just been a crazy few months. Luckily, I already know a LOT of the artists playing, especially the random indie bands, just from my usual Spotify perusing. Click for nearly 21 hours of listening pleasure!
Nightmare, Halsey. She can do no wrong in my eyes. And what timing this release had, I mean, TRULY…thank you, Alabama…🖕🏼
Watching
Game of Thrones Series Finale, HBO. No. No. No. NOPE. I did not like this, I’m angry. I had guessed Jon would kill Dany, especially since Jamie didn’t kill Cersei (also total bullshit), and while I was angry at Dany, I felt this, like the ENTIRE FINAL SEASON, was too rushed. I was more upset when THEON died than Dany, I mean…what is that?? I love Sansa’s storyline (YAS LITERAL KWEEN) and Arya’s kind of made sense and Sam is the Grand Maester YES. But Bran? Wtf. No, that’s just ugh. And Jon being sent back to the Night’s Watch?? It’s like his entire storyline never happened. It was just tragic. Also, do they even need a Night’s Watch anymore?? It seemed like the Free Folk were just chilling at Castle Black so are they living there now? Either way, everyone’s chill with the Free Folk (as they should be) and there’s no more White Walkers so what’s the point of the Night’s Watch? I don’t know. Apparently Jon agrees since he seemed to have just left with them. I have a lot of feelings. Sound off in the comments and let me know your thoughts!
