Weekly Roundup #22: Marches and cults
I got to go to my parents' in California last week to surprise my dad. He's impossible to get gifts for so we always try to go the sentimental route. It was an amazing mini refresh, just hanging out with my family and our puppies. I also can't complain about getting to lay out and read in the backyard every morning or enjoying homemade margaritas outside for happy hour...but that made it so much harder to come back to Jersey, where I'm currently wearing my snow boots. So now it's back to work, dreaming of summer days that will hopefully eventually arrive. Any tips for some midweek mental rejuvenation? Please leave them in the comments below!

Baton Rouge police officers won’t be charged in fatal shooting of Alton Sterling, The Washington Post. "While fatal shootings by police have continued at about the same pace as previous years, according to The Washington Post’s database tracking these incidents, these incidents have drawn less national attention and largely faded from the national political debate." As with everything else that initially incites protests and anger. But we can't let that continue to happen or nothing will ever change.

Parkland Survivor Hits Fox Commentator Where It Hurts, The Wallet, News & Guts. Ingraham is absolutely despicable. To go after a 17-year-old KID and make fun of him for not getting into some colleges?? Are you brain-damaged?? Who could possibly think that was a good idea?? Good for him standing up against her!
Wild Wild Country: The Jaw-Dropping Story of the Cult Next Door, The Atlantic. I've heard of this cult from My Favorite Murder, but I definitely want to watch this documentary now.
One Giant Leap For A Man, One Small Step Toward Proving Earth Is A 'Frisbee,' NPR. Ho boy.
White House announces policy to ban most transgender people from serving in military, CNN. It's just disgusting. Get over it. These men and women are volunteering to fight for our country and you're denying them? With such a volatile person in charge of our country, I feel we should have every able-bodied person willing to fight if, god forbid, it comes to that.
Spanish court remands Catalan presidential candidate in custody, The Guardian. You can't just force the ruling/winning party out and then threaten them with jail time if you don't agree with what the citizens want...

"Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said the nine stole data from more than 140 U.S. universities, 30 American companies and five government agencies, as well as more than 176 universities in 21 other countries." Another country, another hacking. Just another day in the US.

Facebook logs SMS texts and calls, users find as they delete accounts, The Guardian. This makes me so uneasy. I get the contacts, but why texts and calls?? This is exactly why I deleted my Messenger app.
Artist of the Week: Chrissy Angliker, Milk.xyz.
Listening
Can't Do, Everything Everything.
Thin Floors and Tall Ceilings, ODESZA. I really needed to focus at work before leaving for vacation and this song just took over everything else in my head so I was able to concentrate only on my work. It actually inspired me to create a playlist for this specific situation.
Watching
Schitt's Creek, CBC. My parents watch and love this show. I'd started it when it first came out, but promptly forgot about it. It is hilarious. Highly recommend.
