Weekly Roundup #49: GoT and Florence
We’re gearing up to Thanksgiving and Christmas décor is already aggressively reminding us the holiday is drawing near. Which, by the way, I’m fine with because I loooooooooove Christmas. Speaking of early Christmas, if you’re a Sephora Beauty Insider, you get 15 percent off your purchases this coming weekend, November 16-19, with the code BIBONUS. Happy shopping!
Reading
Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win, Jo Piazza. I started a book club for our editorial department at work and this was our first pick. It wasn’t my first choice (I wanted The Secret History by Donna Tartt), but I actually ended up liking it more than I expected. Hated the ending though—it’s the type of ending you either love or hate and I always hate this type, so that’s not really the fault of the book.
The end of Game of Thrones: An exclusive report on the epic final season, Entertainment Weekly. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (I admit, I teared up at the very last sentence. I’m also very stressed about all the deaths to come.)
Florence Welch on Sobriety, Embracing Loneliness and Loving Patti Smith, Rolling Stone. I luuuurrrrve her. Also, I think I’d be a really bad famous person and I would definitely hand out random books to fans.
6 Trends That Will Be Huge in November, PureWow. I almost did a butt mask last weekend and, well, this was just the kick in the ass (🍑) I needed to just go for it.
Firefly Music Festival announces 2019 dates, pre-sale & new loyalty program, Delaware Online. I am NOT happy about it changing to three days instead of four. I really loved having that extra day to set up the camp and to have a whole chill day following to get into the festival groove.
How Leaves, Icicles and an Old Bridge Can Complicate Commutes, The New York Times. A breakdown of alllll NJTransit’s various excuses. 🙄
The Cold Weather Korean Skincare Routine, Into the Gloss. Excuse me while I go add essence to my beauty list.
New Noise: Jacob Banks, Wonderland. If you haven’t listened to him yet, check him out. Also, this speaks to me: “My dress sense is just comfortable. I’m just out here, whatever fits! My dress style is ‘in a rush’, that’s how I’d describe it.” As does this, because, yes: “To be happy, man, and do whatever makes my heart feel full. And drink lots of water – that’s it. Stay cool.”
Scientists say mysterious 'Oumuamua' object could be an alien spacecraft, NBC. I mean, what…that would be crazy! Also, either super cool or super scary, depending on which alien movies you believe.
Women Of Color Made History In The 2018 Midterms, Nylon. I know, I know, no news, but come on, this is AWESOME!!
Welp, We’ve Been Grating Cheese Wrong Our Whole Life, PureWow. YUP. 🧀
People Are Calling Out White Instagram Models For Pretending To Be Black, Nylon. I’m sorry….WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?? Appropriation 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 never 👏🏼 ok 👏🏼
Customers Buy Out Doughnut Shop Early Every Day So Owner Can Be With Sick Wife, CBS. There are still good people on this planet 🙏🏼
Photographer "Jeff Foliage," the pied piper of New England's fall colors, CBS. Find the thing that makes you as happy as falling leaves make this guy.
Listening
So What? Cherub. This duo always reminds me of college and I hope it always does.
Everybody Thinks They Know (But No One Really Knows), Naked Giants.
Watching
True Detective, HBO. I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to watch this show, but we’ve officially started it and we’re officially hooked. Matthew McConaughey’s character really skeeves me out, I have to say. And I kind of hate Woody Harrelson for the first time ever. But I need to know what happened to Dora. And why are they being interviewed 17 years later??
Loving
Astrology Tattoo Stamps, Milk Makeup. I’ll take Aquarius and Pisces, thank you and good night.
George & Viv 24 Days of Beauty Advent Calendar, Anthropologie. This is adorable AND has some solid beauty brands in the included list. Unfortunately, it’s already sold out so I’m gonna go crawl in a ball and cry.
