Weekly Roundup #48: Halloween and CBD

Weekly Roundup #48: Halloween and CBD

Reading

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larsson. Decided to also reread this series in tandem with my Harry Potter reread because it too is so. good.

Good time girl: memories of super groupie Pamela Des Barres, The Guardian. The idea of a “groupie” in the ’50s to ’80s has been so romanticized by stories like this and Almost Famous, and I know that, but I still want to be a groupie in this time period. And Des Barres is my new hero.

Is the Streetwear Bubble About to Burst? Highsnobiety. I hope not because I never want sneakers to go out of style, but, on the other hand, I will forever refuse to pay upwards of even $200 for any type of streetwear, so maybe it’d be good for prices if the bubble did pop.

How I Got (and Lost) My Dream Job, Milk Makeup. Beauty Editor at Nylon is my DREAM JOB. But also, I felt very inspired by this article and it reinvigorated my passion a little. So if you’re feeling down on your job right now, read this and fan the flames.

Timothée Chalamet in Conversation with Harry Styles: The Hottest Actor on the Planet Interviewed by Music's Most Charismatic Popstar, i-D. I don’t know about those headline descriptors, but I do agree that I would love to have sat in on this interview (you know, if they were actually together for it). Also, I truly wish every man on this planet had the views on masculinity that these two do. It was wonderful to read.

I Lived Like My Younger Self Would Have Dreamed for a Week, Man Repeller. This actually doesn’t sound fun to me. The pile of dirty dishes alone would freak me out.

Why Is CBD Everywhere? The New York Times. I have a CBD oil for my back and a CBD bath bomb I received as a gift, but, so far, I’m not convinced. I’m definitely willing to try a CBD-infused cocktail or three, though, and I’ve heard CBD lube is basically magic. 😉

Should you have your significant other as your phone background? Vox. My lock screen background is a shot of my partner and I from a photo shoot we did for a publication I was working for at the time. It’s taken from the back and the colors are aesthetically pleasing to me. It honestly never even crossed my mind that it might be weird and after reading this article, I still don’t care. If I had to defend myself though—it’s cute and personal, but not too in your face. Also, it makes me smile when I see it so fuck off.

Halloween Candy, Ranked, The Cut. I wholeheartedly disagree with Cadbury Screme Eggs’ ranking. WHOLEHEARTEDLY.

Reese's sets up 'candy converter' vending machine that swaps out unwanted Halloween candy for peanut butter cups, Daily News. Can Hershey just do this for all their candy?

8 Hopeful Tales of Finding a Boo on Halloween, Elle. “Mystery Scream” bothers me, I want her to know!

The Story Of Yandy's Sexy, Viral Halloween Costumes, According To The Woman Behind It All, Bustle. I’ve seen some of these more ridiculous costumes and this article was an interesting look into the reasoning behind them all.

Should I wear that costume for Halloween? Consult this flowchart, CNN. Lookin’ at you, Shaun White. Also, the fact that this is even needed…🤦🏼‍♀️

I’m a Competent Adult, But Eye Shadow Terrifies Me, The Cut. Yes, yes, yes. I have no many fun colors and palettes and no idea how to put them on my face. And all the brushes. How do I know which I’m supposed to be using??

Wonderlist, Wonderland. I recommend “No Stress” by Aaron Unknown.

'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Star Rachel Bloom Is Living Proof That Fangirling Is A Radical Act, Bustle.

Lenny Kravitz, Wonderland. Friends of mine recently saw him in concert and I died with jealousy while watching their videos. I think Lenny Kravitz is one of the sexiest men in history. He’s also a truly beautiful soul.

Should You Wash Your Face With Fun Fizzy Water Instead of Boring Flat Water? The Cut. You don’t have to, but it seems to be beneficial. You will have to buy a SodaStream though…

Janelle Monáe Is Breaking Rules & Creating A Space For Others To Do The Same, Bustle. I am actually in awe of the person Janelle Monáe is. “Monáe explains this, cool as anything, growing emphatic, ‘This is a very American album, through the lens of a black woman, and it’s saying that this country may not be working in my favor now, but it will be in mine before it’s all over. That is the hope that I want to leave, because that’s the hope that I mean.’ ”

Robyn’s ‘Honey’ Is a Profound Electro-Pop Masterpiece for a Heartbroken Generation, Highsnobiety. Have you listened? Go, go, go! “Between the Lines” or, naturally, “Honey” are both good songs to start with.

2 Sisters Were Found Dead in the River, Duct-Taped Together. Police Have Few Answers. The New York Times. This is so tragic and, even worse, I’m left hoping they committed suicide because the alternative is a horrific murder.

'Ocean's 8' Star Sarah Paulson Is Ready, Bustle. She’s a true queen.

Julia Roberts Dyed Her Hair "Flamingo" Pink, and We're Flocking to the Salon, Popsugar. Umm…can she keep her hair this color?? 💕

Behind the Scenes of Wu Tang Clan x Milk Makeup, Milk.xyz. Can I please be a Wu Warrior? Step one to my armor will definitely be Chi.

The 10 Best Overnight Face Masks for Glowing Skin, PureWow. A few of these were already on my beauty wants Google Doc (yep, that’s a real thing), but looks like I have a few more to add.

Instagram Travel Couple Fell to Their Death While Taking a Selfie, The Cut. I’m horrified. Please, please, be careful, my dears! The ‘Gram is not always worth it.

Listening

Creep, TLC. Listening to Spotify’s Halloween Party playlist, because #festive, and I just really liked this inclusion. Some of the other picks are truly random.

Doing Me, RAY BLK.

Watching

Marshmello and Disco Ball Baby. Wait for it…this is one of my top five favorite videos EVER.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Netflix. I had some time to myself this past weekend so I decided to buckle down, finish my Riverdale stockpile and finally move to this show. It’s…good, but also kind of terrifying for someone who doesn’t do well with horror films/shows. I’ll definitely finish it, but I also won’t be watching it right before I go to bed.

Road to Christmas, Hallmark Channel. I watched this with a friend last night (great move after hours of Sabrina) and…I mean, it was a Hallmark movie. But I have to say, I love their Christmas movies. Will I make fun of them the entire time I’m watching? Absolutely. Will I continue to enjoy them, mostly because of the Christmas cheer behind them. Yes times ten—I love Christmas!

Loving

Vote411.org. Get educated about your area’s midterm elections and create your personalized ballot. This site was super helpful for the categories I’m not as up to date on, like smaller races, and for the public question, which is generally not super clear on the actual ballot. I’m recommending this site to literally everyone! Please go vote tomorrow, if you haven’t already! 🇺🇸
