Weekly Roundup #6: Hope and distress
This was a rough week. There was a sudden death in my boyfriend's family, while we were out of town. I do not recommend a six hour drive while attempting to hold back tears, if you can help it. Therefore, my opener will be brief this week. Many of the stories here speak of hope or distress for the future. Hope that we are aware of the dangers of constant technology, of brain damage for pro-athletes; distress that men in powerful positions keep getting away with sexual harassment or assault, that fraternities will not change, that our society will keep growing larger despite the warnings, that there will be more shootings. It's a teetering balance and I long for the day we will finally fall off that tightrope and into the net of hope.
