Does Your Spotify Cosmic Playlist Fit You? Here Are My Thoughts...

Does Your Spotify Cosmic Playlist Fit You? Here Are My Thoughts...

I’m a cusp baby so I fall into both Aquarius and Pisces, which can sometimes be fun because if one doesn’t fit, the other may, but can also be confusing. I mean, Aquarius are supposed to be super closed off and Pisces are bleeding hearts, like bleeding all over everyone and feeling EVERYTHING. Sooo, yeah. That can be tricky. However, this is one of the times I’m grateful to be a cusp because I got two playlists, aka double the chances of finding my newest favorite artist.

The Aquarius playlist is all about partnerships that deserve your love and care. I actually already had a lot of songs on here saved or at least knew the artists. There were previously-loved musicians like Frank Ocean and Hayley Kiyoko; overplayed (but not really because I still love them) songs like Yoke Lore’s cover of “Truly Madly Deeply” and “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron with Phoebe Bridgers; along with new faves like “Holding On” by Cannons and Cautious Clay’s “Call Me.” I mean, Broods’ “Four Walls“ is now on repeat for me. I seriously can’t stop. Washed Out’s “It All Feels Right” is definitely a song I could have on in the background while working, one that would subconsciously lift my mood. “Crew” by GoldLink, featuring Brent Faiyaz & Shy Glizzy, makes my head bop. I can’t help it, I’ve been a fan of this song since 2017, it’s just got a great beat. And I’d saved Golden Vessel’s “Hesitate” sometime in the past, but I don’t think I ever listened to it again so that was a nice surprise. All in all, I was a big fan of this playlist. I found a few new loves and definitely felt that these songs really spoke to something in me. Perhaps my belief that there is a person out there for everyone. So, props to Spotify on this one. My Indie heart was very happy.

Now, the Pisces playlist is more heavy-hitting and featured a lot of “rise and grind” type songs, which was basically the total opposite from what I expected. However, this one focuses on “what is possible when you are able to shine” and the things Pisces need to work on to succeed at work in 2019. So I guess, hustling is the point? Disclosure, Lorde and Empire of the Sun were some of the songs I liked, not so much KAYTRANADA and Anderson .Paak’s “Glowed Up” or 21 Savage’s “Bank Account.” I liked “Made for Now” by Janet Jackson and Daddy Yankee and “Everyday” by A$AP Rocky more than I thought I would. I “rediscovered” Disclosure’s “When A Fire Starts To Burn” and “Wake Up in the Sky” by Gucci Mane, both songs I had really liked in the past and completely forgotten about. There were a few hidden gems like Grimes (😍) “Go” and “Wildfire” by SBTRKT and Little Dragon, but a lot of it was Beyoncé (twice with The Carters) or Rihanna or Ariana Grande. I was disappointed by the last of creativity in a lot of this playlist. I like “Titanium” and “Green Light,” but they’re definitely nothing new and definitely not mind-blowing. This playlist just felt a little forced. And while I would listen to it again, it was very much a runner up to the Aquarius one. Guess my water bearer side won out this time.
