Weekly Roundup #81: Motivation and VMAs

Weekly Roundup #81: Motivation and VMAs

How was everyone’s Labor Day?? Mine was spent out in the sun, drinking and eating too much. I was honestly happy when the weather on Monday was kind of crappy because I needed a break from my three day weekend!

Reading

What You Did, Claire McGowan. I hadn’t let myself read a thriller in a while and, ahhhhh, it was so good to be back.

The Girl From Charnelle, K.L. Cook. Mom leaves, girl starts illicit affair with married man twice her age…sounds pretty enthralling, right? Sorry to disappoint. When I think of this book, the first word that comes to mind is “dusty”…probably because the plot is about as dry and dull as the setting of the story.

Let’s Meet Again in Five Years, The New York Times. This really is out of a movie and I can’t believe it worked, but I love it.

The VMAs Are Pointless Now, Vice. Lol, I love this AND fully agree. Other than Halsey’s rainbow part (which I saw on Insta) and Missy Elliott’s performance (which I watched the next day), what else mattered? Aka, this is why I didn’t even bother watching.

What the Heck is Carnival Row About? Refinery29. Oh, I for sure have a new show to binge!

‘NO EXCESSIVE BARKING’: A Chevy Chase dog park divides the rich and powerful, The Washington Post. I hate people…

I Quit Instagram For the Entire Summer to Heal My Idiot Brain, Cosmopolitan. I wouldn’t mind trying this except I need Instagram for my literal job…plus, I don’t feel I’m actually at a point where I need to do this, yet. I open Instagram more than I should when I’m bored, for sure, but I don’t even scroll anymore because it just doesn’t interest me that much. Maybe I’m not following the right people, lol, but I just love getting creative with a story. That’s what pulls me in. And the colors (and desserts!) on feeds like @sprinklesforbreakfast or the soothing creativity of @runnerkimhall make me happy, so I don’t feel the need to stop now!

Can Jesus Close the Wage Gap? Inside Hillsong’s Instagram-Fueled Women’s Movement, Elle. Yeah…it’s about as cringe-inducing as you’d expect. One of the best parts? When Bieber-pal, super pastor and all-around douche, Carl Lentz, encourages the church-goers to donate generously to Hillsong to help close the wage gap and the writer wonders if women get a 2% discount on the tithing, due to said wage gap. LOL. Also, all the comments from the women who were interviewed sound so “cult-y,” it’s disturbing.

Your Guide to Fall 2019’s Top Fashion Trends, The Everygirl. I actually own zero plaid, but love the idea of a plaid skirt and I’m very here for an asymmetrical neckline.

‘Breaking Bad’ Movie: Watch the First Teaser for ‘El Camino,’ Variety. Wait, Nazi compound? Did I miss something? Either way, I’m ready!

Lizzie McGuire Is Getting a Reboot: See the Original Cast Then and Now, E! News. I seriously doubt I’ll be getting Disney+…but I would definitely watch this if I did! Far more interested in this than the sixty Marvel shows they’re doing for that service.

Watching

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Amazon Prime. Ok, so we FINALLY caved and got Amazon Prime, which means I FINALLY get to watch this show and I’m so pumped!

Missy Elliott Performs ‘Get Your Freak On,’ ‘Lose Control’ & More | 2019 Video Music Awards. Missy Elliott is a TRUE icon. She’s been showing young girls they don’t have to fit the mold of the perfect female in order to be a badass bitch. Bow down to Missy! Also, Alyson Stoner had a cameo 😍 I literally got chills watching her.

Listening

Motivation, Normani. I waited way too long to listen to this song…I’m OBSESSED.

Loving

Lizzo DNA Test. I am apparently 63% that bitch 🤷🏼‍♀️
