Weekly Roundup #80: Septums and tie-dye

Weekly Roundup #80: Septums and tie-dye

Happy Monday! I can’t believe I’m at 80 already! I feel like I just started these! And yet…like I’ve been doing them forever? Either way, #80 is pretty cool! Ok, so this past week, the bf and I started seriously apartment hunting and it’s so discouraging and stressful! Everything is so expensive and the places in our budget are either adorable but tiny, larger but dingy or way too far from where we want to be. Anyone out there have any apartment searching tips! Load the comment section up, please! Also, anyone else just realize next Monday is Labor Day?? Where is the summer going??

How to Build a Girl, Caitlin Moran. This was surprisingly good and now I’m really pumped about the movie they’re supposedly putting out with Bernie Feldstein as Johanna!

A short cultural history of tie-dye, Vox. Oh, hi, Maggie Rogers! 👋🏼 Also, I love this: “As Simon-Alexander points out, ‘Our culture is going through an upheaval right now that’s not dissimilar to the late ’60s and ’70s.’ Tie-dye feels like a call for change and, with its irrepressible colors, for purposeful optimism.” ✊🏼✌🏼

Meet the Unfluencers, The Cut. “The breaking point for me always hinges on the unfluencer’s taste’s not being what she thinks it is. But my being provoked probably has less to do with the narcissism I perceive on the unfluencer’s part than with my own: I’m not as original as I wish to be; my taste is not as interesting and refined as I think it is.” I mean, yes, I can totally agree with that—I’m definitely not as original as I’d like to think I am. However, I don’t think I completely related to this piece. The “unfluencer,” for me, is someone I can tell is actually really fake or whose style is just “expensive basic white bitch.” If I don’t find you authentic, I don’t like you or the shit you’re peddling and, thus, I don’t want any part of it. What’s “unfluences” you?

We need a new kind of HGTV, Curbed. “Instead of House Hunters, I’d like to see Reasonably Priced Apartment Hunters.” YES. I don’t watch HGTV now, but I would watch that show!

Sexy lingerie is being replaced by sports bras, New York Post. Comfort over style, people! That’s what I live for.

On deep-shallow companions, Just Good Shit. Honestly, this was probably one of the worst things about losing my former best friend and I even remember thinking, “Maybe I bored her and that’s why she’s not talking to me,” but no, she did it too. I fully agree that this is an important relationship to have with someone…thank god for my two favorite former coworkers, you know who you are!

California to build largest wildlife crossing in world, AP. Ok, this is seriously cool. I love this!

Down To Earth: Has 2019 Killed The Heel? Refinery29. GOD, I hope so. "When high heels come back on trend, which I’m sure they will, we’ll have higher expectations of how we should feel in them," predicts Davda. "The future of women’s footwear is comfortable." Can you hear the applause??

Inaugural Woodlands Music & Arts Festival Curated By Umphrey’s McGee To Feature BIG Something, SunSquabi, More, Live for Live Music. I would so go to this. Two days in the woods to just chill with your friends and music? Sign me up.

Miley Cyrus thread, Twitter. And this (besides the fact that no one cares about me enough/I’m not talented lol) is why I could never be famous.

MTV's New 'Ghosted' Show Draws Backlash For Romanticizing Stalking, Elle. Wow, this article is getting a lot of traction in this week’s roundup, lol. Someone legitimately reached out to me to be on this show because of said article back in January, but I don’t think it’ll come as a shock that I said no. However, people’s issue with the show should translate to Catfish as well…it’s basically the same thing, this is just a little clearer. Anyway, will I still watch? If there’s nothing else on and I’m hungover! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Gotta see what I missed out on being a part of…🤣

The real Mindhunters: why ‘serial killer whisperers’ do more harm than good, The Guardian. I can see how Douglas’ sample would be distorted, but I still think it has to be useful to know the inner workings of these monsters, if only to get an inkling of what to look for in future crimes and psychopaths.

How To Find New Friends That Are Truly On Your Level, Girlboss. Ok, fine, there are some solid ideas in here.

The FBI Managed To Keep This Serial Killer Under Wraps, But A Chilling New Book Reveals All, Refinery29. I had NEVER heard of him…and I’m horrified.

Notice Me!: How Fandom Endangers Female Musicians, Nylon. I can’t imagine being in that position.

Brandy Melville, Birkenstocks, and Beach-Wave Hair: Inside the VSCO Girl Vibe Taking Over the Internet, Elle. Never even heard of this, lol, but not surprised by this description: “VSCO girls are, by and large, white, thin, and have enough money to buy the various high-end items the trend includes.”

Why You Cry When You’re Mad, Refinery29. I do this EVERY. TIME. Never fails and I hate it.

4 Luxury Skincare Dupes, Straight from a Dermatologist, PureWow. I can confirm Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost is a great dupe and I’m working on the Differin/Sunday Riley comparison.

Listening

Toast (Boyfriend Remix), Maty Noyes. Anyone else heard of Boyfriend? Because she’s new to me and I DIG her!

Feels Like Home, Bea Miller & Jessie Reyez. Love these ladies so a joint song, yes, please!

Lose You Again, WALK THE MOON, BRAVES.

Stop Playin’, THEY.

Watching

Mindhunter, Netflix. Season 2 is heeere!

Loving

My new septum piercing. I've been wanting to switch out my first one for a while now, but am pretty picky about my jewelry. I wanted sterling silver and something simple and I finally came across this baby. What’s your jewelry style?
