Weekly Roundup #67: K-beauty and hair gems

Weekly Roundup #67: K-beauty and hair gems

It’s starting to get a little warmer and we’re getting a little taste of spring…it makes me want to run outside and just stay out there, twirling in some swingy dress. I LOVE IT. I do love fall and I like the snow, but summer, summer is my favorite and it’s almost here! While we patiently wait for its arrival, check out these fun and fascinating stories below! Happy Monday!

Reading

The Nightingale, Kristin Hannah.

Who’s Afraid of Bebe Rexha? Nylon.

The Best New K-Beauty Makeup and Skin-Care Launches Coming in April, Allure. I LOVE me some K-beauty. I’ll take one of everything please, or at least the Yuzu Lemonade Peel or the Pineapple-C Bright Serum.

That Noise? The Rich Neighbors Digging a Basement Pool in Their $100 Million Brownstone, The New York Times. I would be furious. Like, seriously, fuck Beauvoir and Bastid.

7 Trends That Will Be Huge in April, PureWow. Peeps need to burn a fiery death (that would probably smell amazing) and go away forever. I’m also very not interested in “sober curious.” Count me out, thanks.

Return to "The Twilight Zone," CBS. I cannot waaaaaait to watch this! I love that Rod Serling’s family sees the same social consciousness in Peele. This show was so important in subtly showing the issues in past society and I hope it continues to do so with our modern problems.

How to Build a Skincare Routine, Girls’ Night In. Basically I need to actually get Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser. I will 100 percent vouch for The Ordinary’s 2% Hyaluronic Acid serum.

It’s Hair Gem Season, Wonderland. I know what I’ll be scooping up for festival season…✌🏼✨

Blindness & Beauty: How Visually Impaired Women Are Changing an Industry That Ignored Them, Allure. This is such an interesting piece. I never thought about this because I don’t know anyone who’s severely visually-impaired (except me without my glasses), but now I’m horrified more products don’t use Braille. How are visually-impaired consumers supposed to purchase anything?? These are the things we should be thinking about and expanding on as a society.

Bill Hader on the Music That Made Him, Pitchfork. I. Love. Stefon. I mean…Bill Hader! But honestly, I love the evolvement of the music he listened to and I especially appreciate the “I’m going to listen to what I want, not just what the kids would like” thought. That’s how I want to be as a parent. I feel you grow up with a more mature and openminded sense of music that way.

I Tried At-Home Microneedling—and It Totally Changed My Skin, Allure. I have this at home and clearly I need to remember to use it more than the once every six months I’m at right now.

Josie Totah Didn't "Come Out" — She's Always Been Here, Refinery29. I don’t know who she is since I stopped watching Disney like a decade ago (wow, yikes), but I love the visibility R29 is pushing. Totah deserves the accolades she’s received and people need to see women like her because the transgender community shouldn’t have to hide or live in fear of being themselves.

Thinking Green: The GNI Community's Tips + Practices for Living More Sustainably, Girls’ Night In. Glass containers also look trés chic.

New Orleans Jazz Fest Adds Fleetwood Mac To 2019 Lineup Following Rolling Stones Cancellation, Live for Live Music. Um…are tickets still available??

Beyoncé is partnering with Adidas to create new shoes and apparel and relaunch athleisure brand Ivy Park, Business Insider. I thought Ivy Park was dumb and just another way for an already rich group to make even more money, but…the more I see it, the more I want an outfit, which is just basic psychology—the mere exposure effect. But still…that mint outfit?? 😍

I Got Lip Fillers for the First Time and This Is What Happened, Allure. A coworker and I were just talking about how we maybe kinda sorta wouldn’t mind the smallest bit of lip filler on our top lips and then this article slid into my inbox. I don’t know…I would never spend that amount right now, but I wouldn’t say no if it was offered to me. 💋

AAF suspends operations; Polian 'disappointed,' ESPN. I mean, I only watched a game and I probably wasn’t going to continue watching, but I still feel bad for all the players, coaches and more who were involved and excited to be a part of this league. Except Johnny Football because he’s an irresponsible idiot. (Ok, fine, him too.)

The Best Under $15 Rosés To Try This Spring, According To Wine Experts, Refinery29. Under $15? Now that’s my kind of drink. I’ve had, and like, Ruza, but Cocomero wins the prize for cutest label.

The 'Midtown Uniform' is now in peril as Patagonia isn't accepting new finance clients for its ubiquitous fleece vests, Business Insider. Yas, kweens!!

21 Pictures That Are Way, Wayyyyy Too Real For People With Siblings, BuzzFeed. WAY too real.

Skrillex May Protect You From Mosquitos, According To A New Study — So Pass Me The Speakers, Bustle. Lolololol. I actually love this song, so I’m seeing a “new” summer anthem!

Colonel Sanders at the Rave: Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Presence at Ultra Music Festival Was Disturbing, Pitchfork. It was indeed…a friend tagged me in it and I couldn’t even watch it for longer than 10 seconds. But I was actually more annoyed that Ultra even allowed it to happen. I mean, that is not what music festivals should be about. Is it clever of KFC’s part? Sure. Should it have happened? Fuck. No. Ultra has enough issues this year without commercializing the acts.

6 Subtle Signs You’re in a Toxic Relationship, PureWow. You may not even realize it, but once you do, get out. This goes for friendships too.

Lunchables just unveiled 'Brunchables' breakfast sandwiches, Insider. These will be straight-up disgusting. Don’t @ me.

Hear Elon Musk’s Surprise Rap Song ‘RIP Harambe,’ Rolling Stone. No, thank you.

Listening

This Life, Vampire Weekend. This song makes me want to get out in the sun and do an old school dance with lots of arm swinging and finger snaps.

Watching

Maisie Williams Accidentally Drops a Major Spoiler in Game of Thrones’ Final Season, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. I would never have been able to keep it together as well as she did…and that’s why I’m not an actor. 😉

Faye. TRY AND TELL ME THIS DIDN’T MAKE YOU SMILE. JUST TRY!

Joker, Warner Bros. Pictures. Speaking of smiles…I’m sad it’s not Jared Leto though, honestly.

Loving

EZoo lineup. Gotta say, this is the best EZoo lineup I’ve seen in my years of going. Consider me HYPED.

oVertone. I finally repurchased my original go-to for keeping my hair purple and I honestly forgot how much I love it. It has been a minute. The conditioner itself smells minty, but, because it’s a conditioner, it also just spreads on so much more easily than other dye products. I also finally had my sad, dead ends trimmed so I’m just really feeling my hair right now and I love it!
