Weekly Roundup #32: Nutella and the Cosmo
I'll be out of the office for the next seven days so this might be my last Weekly Roundup for a couple weeks. I'll see how I feel about catching up starting next week, but I would like to fully immerse myself in my vacation (heading to Firefly in Delaware) and not worry about reading emails or the news. In the meantime, catch up on the already published Roundups and stay tuned for posts from Firefly on this site and my Instagram. Have a wonderful week, everyone!
Reading
The Prestige, Christopher Priest.
Monster & Angels, Anne Marie Andrus. My partner's dad gave me this because the author docks their boat at the same marina as him and they're kind of friends. Luckily, we are not so I can say, do not read this book unless you're specifically looking for a 50 Shades-esque (in terms of the writing), cheesy vampire novel, which I definitely was not. Also, the historical inaccuracies might drive you insane. Hi. Currently happening to me.

(After losing enough weight to be under 200 lbs for the first time in a long time) "It was a strange experience in many ways, but the most heartbreaking part of it was realizing how much nicer people are to you in everyday life, the smaller you are. I wasn’t even close to thin by any popular beauty standard, but the difference was stark, even between being a larger plus size person and a smaller one." Heart-wrenching, but I know it's true.
Claire Foy's Lisbeth Salander is haunted by her past in The Girl in the Spider's Web trailer, Entertainment Weekly. This reminded me I still need to read this book. I don't like the thought of anyone other than Rooney Mara playing Lisbeth, buuut Claire Foy is a wonderful actress so props to her for taking on this complicated role.

The Instagram Bots Are Dead, So What Now? Download. I just found this out. So glad bots are gone, leave it be now! We don't need creepy, fake follows and comments, it's weird. Leave Instagram to living, breathing, flesh and blood humans. People can still buy followers though. Ick.
Apple unveils a new set of ‘digital wellness’ features for better managing screen time, TechCrunch. I think it is, one, super cool that Apple is trying to help people manage their digital life, even on their own products, and, two, super scary that Apple has realized it's such a problem that they have to help people manage their own products. I love the idea of setting a time limit for screen time and having a notification pop up on said screen to tell me my time is up and my phone needs to be put tha fuck away.

All the close-minded bigots out there will celebrate this as a "victory." It's disgusting. And, by the way, repeat after me, people. Christianity 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 not 👏🏼 under 👏🏼 attack!! These are human beings who deserve basic human rights, like being able to celebrate their life and marriage. This doesn't have any to do with your religion, at least, it shouldn't. This is about growing and maturing as a society.

The words "historic precedence" were used. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Puerto Rico ordered to release hurricane-related death data, CBS. Someone can certainly correct me, but I'm not clear on why they would want to fudge the true number. It's the US government's fault and lack of immediate, critical response that led to so many deaths, no? Not necessarily Puerto Rico.

Mueller III, and obtained by The New York Times — contends that the president cannot illegally obstruct any aspect of the investigation into Russia’s election meddling because the Constitution empowers him to, 'if he wished, terminate the inquiry, or even exercise his power to pardon.' " What a wonderful precedent this would set. A world where the president can pardon himself would be a scary world indeed.

Watching
Daisy Coleman, The Scarlet Letter Reports. This is a series Amanda Knox (yes, that one) is doing on women who have been shamed and ostracized after their stories and lives were twisted around in the media. It’s incredible.
Sweetbitter, Starz. I'm SO excited I finally get to watch this (while housesitting for someone who actually has Starz)! I'm liking it so far, but I admittedly keep getting distracted by how naturally (as natural as you can be on a TV show) beautiful Ella Purnell is. Girl is stunning with those big eyes and perfect thick bangs.
