Weekly Roundup #46: "Broken" and "vanilla lilac"

Weekly Roundup #46: "Broken" and "vanilla lilac"

Ok, my dears, first Weekly Roundup in its new format! It looks exactly the same, but you’ll notice it is now minus the news articles, only the entertaining or interesting reads from the past week. Let me know you thoughts in the comments, but I hope you all enjoy it because I had a much better time creating this week’s post than I have in a while. Also, look for a post on Fort Lauderdale and places to go in the city, hopefully coming soon! I was there this past weekend and, admittedly, kind of fell in love. Have a great week, everyone!

Reading

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling.

Eeny Meeny, M.J. Arlidge. The main character is this series can be incredibly irritating, but the crimes are so fucked up, I can’t help but want to continue reading them.

2018’s Biggest Rock Radio Hit Is One You Might Not Have Heard Of, Rolling Stone. Yes! Yes! Yes! I freaking love this band and I love that they’re getting the attention they very much deserve. Also, if you’re interested in the track from alt radio to Top 40, there’s a pretty informative path laid out in this piece. At least, the path “broken” took. And, major side note, I’m fairly certain I like the music from one of the member’s old projects, Oh Honey, so that’s fun too ha.

The Absolute Bare Minimum, Into the Gloss. Is anyone really able to pare their routine down to three items?? I suppose if I had to choose right now, mine would be Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum, Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel and Glossier’s Daily Sunscreen SPF 35. I think I need to try this L’Oréal co-wash now though.

‘Vanilla Lilac’ Is the Latest Hair Color the Internet Wants You to Embrace, PureWow. I've  been working this color lately because I ran out of my purple dye. I have to admit, mine does not look as good at the girl in the photo’s does…but I already knew I desperately need to update my blonde.

7 Things Sunday Riley Taught Me About Getting Great Skin, Refinery29. Ugh, give me the ENTIRE Sunday Riley line, please. I’m obsessed. Good Genes is the product that got me into skin care in the first place.

Just Because I’m Gay Doesn’t Mean I Want to Be Your Sidekick, Man Repeller. We need to remember that people aren’t stereotypes. “Perhaps this is where the sidekick trope originates; even some queer people have internalized the idea that our story isn’t the one people are interested in. What that girl at the party didn’t seem to realize was that in “accepting” my sexuality, she reduced me to a supporting player, a party trick. And that kind of diminutization stung, because it confirmed my worst fear at the time: that no matter what I did, I would be set apart — either by boys who made fun of me because I was gay, or girls who saw my sexuality as a novelty.“

Pearl Jam’s ‘Vs.’: 10 Things You Didn’t Know, Rolling Stone. I think my favorite is #4. Or #7, about “Better Man.”

The One Thing That Stresses You Out More Than Anything, According to Your Zodiac Sign, PureWow. Ok, this weirdly worked for me. And it definitely fit the boyfriend. How relatable was yours?

How to Cope with Secondhand Stress, Harvard Business Review. On that note…is your deskman’s stress over her next project affecting you? Almost certainly. Here are some helpful tips to try and alleviate the issue. But mostly, surround yourself with positive people and take care of yourself!

The Bright Future and Grim Death of a Privileged Hollywood Daughter, The New York Times. This is such a tragic story and I have so. many. questions. I hate for her family that this will be the first thing most people remember, or even know, about the clearly very talented Lyric, but I also want to know what the fuck happened!

What Even Is a Going-Out Top Anymore? The Cut. If you know, please enlighten me. I officially only buy clothes for work now…

British newlyweds got so drunk on rum that they bought their honeymoon hotel in Sri Lanka, Insider. This is delightful. I’m actually giddy over this story! I mean, I wouldn’t want the debt or stress, but, hey, they decided to stick with the purchase for a reason.

Brandon Truaxe Is Officially Out — But Deciem Is Open For Business, Refinery29. HALLELUJAH! I really loved certain products from this budget-friendly brand and have around five more I’d like to try (whoops), but have refrained from purchasing ever since Truaxe and his mental instability took over Deciem’s social media. So I’m very happy to see the necessary steps were finally taken to remove him.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson end engagement, CNN. I actually feel bad for them, but…is anyone really surprised? They’re just lucky they ended it before making it official and things really get messy (ahem, Biebs).

Listening

coachella, lovelytheband. In honor of the first article I included in this week’s roundup, I’ve added one of my other favorites from this group. Check out their album “finding it hard to smile.”

Cold to the Touch, Ralph. Not new to the game here, but this is such a fun, cheerful song. You can’t help but smile when you listen.

still feel. half•alive. I was listening to this song and this led me to their others and I’m officially obsessed with this trio. #Firefly2019!

Watching

I’m Sorry, truTV. This comedy from Andrea Savage (Trust me, you’ll recognize her. Stepbrothers, anyone?) is delightfully entertaining. I have to admit, it makes me happy to see all the fun doesn’t have to end at having kids. Also, there are multiple moments where the parents have to navigate modern questions when raising your kids in the current society. Like, how do you show them that their friend having two moms is totally normal when the moms in question are assholes and ruin every play date? My only dislike is that Savage never seems to stop laughing at herself in a “aren’t I so fucking funny?” kind of way, which can get a little irritating. Otherwise, check it out!
