Weekly Roundup #1
If nothing else, every week I will do a roundup and summary of my activities for the past week, from posting any of my published writings, what I was reading, a new food trend I tried, or everything in between.
Reading
Death at a Penn State Fraternity, The Atlantic.
I was in Greek life in college, we heard the rumors about fraternity hazing, but I was truly horrified, shocked and disgusted at how bad it actually can be. The last section is one of the most chilling things I've ever read. "Where is Tim right now, as his body lies on the couch? Are his soul and self still here, in the room, or have they already slipped away?" Haunting.
Two strangers bond over country music and beer. Then the gunshots started., The Washington Post.
From Aggressive Overtures to Sexual Assault: Harvey Weinstein’s Accusers Tell Their Stories, The New Yorker. Despicable. Bye, Felicia.*
Why Are More American Teenagers Than Ever Suffering From Severe Anxiety?, The New York Times.
As Goes the Middle Class, So Goes TGI Fridays, Eater. "...having these touch points with one another is not so immaterial: We lose something if we lose TGI Fridays, and it’s more than just the Loaded Potato Skins."
The Bronx’s Quiet, Brutal War With Opioids, The New York Times.
How the Elderly Lose Their Rights, The New Yorker. Horrifying and despicable.
US withdraws from UNESCO over 'anti-Israel bias', CNN.
The Girl in the No. 8 Jersey, The New York Times.
Las Vegas Shooting: Chaos at a Concert and a Frantic Search at Mandalay Bay, The New York Times. A minute-by-minute account from officer's broadcasts.
Who Is Ivanka Trump Trying to Impress?, Refinery29. It's certainly not me.
How We Found Tom Price’s Private Jets, Politico. The tenacity of reporters, man. I dig it.
Louis Tramunti’s Wife Thought He Was Having a Heart Attack. So Why Did the Police Break His Back?, The Daily Beast. "When I tell my black friend, he just says ‘that’s how it is.’ That’s not right. That’s not how it should be. I’m trying to tell white people: They’re coming for you, too, bro.”
My Impostor Year, Lenny.
With 80% of Puerto Rico still without power, Trump says FEMA can't stay 'forever', USA Today.
Winds whip new terror into deadly California wildfires, Associated Press.
Texas Should Not Execute Robert Pruett Tonight, The New York Times.
Listening
My Favorite Murder. This is not a "new this week" activity, but I want to mention it in my first roundup because I HIGHLY recommend it. If you're a true crime fan or have a dark curiosity into the interworkings of murderers, download this podcast now. Quality is a little wonky until after Episode 10 so, if you want, skip and then go back to those episodes once you've fallen in love.
Bop 3: The Girl Who Cried Purple, Terror Jr. Despite its beginnings with the Kardashian clan, I love this pop trio and have been listening to them on repeat this week. Bop 3 is their most recent album. (Grapes)
Halsey. I saw her in concert again, at Prudential Center on Saturday. If you haven't listened to her by now, get on it. I miss her blue hair, but her voice and message have only gotten better and stronger. I. Love. Her.
Eating
Ani Ramen, Jersey City, NJ. If you haven't gotten on the ramen bowl train yet, well, let this be your first stop.
Wearing
White booties, Forever 21. I'm loving this mod trend and got the perfect (inexpensive) pair to rock it. I was nervous when I got them because they were taller than I had originally expected, but I wore them all day at work and was completely fine. (Note: only the wide pair appears to be in stock now.)
*Yes, I've seen both Friday and RuPaul's Drag Race ;)
