Why This Website Exists

Why This Website Exists

As you may have read in my bio, I'm a twenty-something woman trying to make it in New York media and the crazy existence that is life in the 21st century.

These days, everywhere you turn there's a new trick, book, code or song on how to get your dream job, how to get discovered or how to boost your Instagram following, how to fill in the blank here. Basically, they're all tips on "how to make it" in the Millennial Era. It's not even how to be successful, it's how to survive. Because it's not enough to know your peers are suddenly starting their own local cheese and coffee shop, dropping everything to join the Peace Corps or having their weight loss story picked up by the Daily Mail. You have to see it all happen from inception to completion and feel the inadequacy washing over you with each new post. You can try and tell yourself you're doing great things too, but that nasty inner voice always comes back to haunt you, sweetly whispering in your head, "You're not running your own company. You haven't visited every country yet, not even close. You haven't even been interviewed about the body you found by a local news channel yet." Although I suppose I'll survive if the latter never happens. My point is there's so much pressure now, from society, sure, but mostly from yourself. At least, there is if you're anything like me.

But throughout all that, my desire to do something good and to be creative powers through. I want to be vocal about my beliefs, my fears and my inner and outer conflicts. I want people out there to know they're not alone, and maybe I want to not feel alone too. I want to feel like I'm really working that right hemisphere again. This isn't the first time I've tried to keep up with a blog and maybe it won't be my last, but, hey, all we can do is try!

So here's where this site comes in. All my frustrations, my joys, my sorrows, hopefully they'll be here. Whether you read them all or even just this one, I will be working through the struggles of becoming a (fingers crossed) successfully adulting adult in a society constantly scrutinizing and judging each other. Because if you can't beat 'em, well, you bet your ass I'll be posting like I can!
