Weekly Roundup #74: The Fourth and The Little Mermaid
Hello, it’s me! Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend, hopefully spent out in the sun by some sort of water. I got a vicious burn on my 🍑 thanks to a new, cheeky suit so I’ll be lathering on the aloe this week, before heading back down the shore! This is my last short week of the summer so I’ll be fully engrossed in work and may not post this week. However, next week, I should be back to my regular schedule! Have a great week, everyone!
xo, Katie
Reading
Lie With Me, Philippe Besson. Think “Call Me By Your Name” but not quite as good? I also haven’t read “Call Me By Your Name” haha, so I can’t say for sure…I’m just assuming because the whole book is based around a teenage love affair that colors the participants’ whole lives and I just don’t understand how.
It's Always the Husband, Michele Campbell. This had a good premise but the unlikeable characters, subpar dialogue and a choppy timeline kind of ruined it for me.
The Beautiful and the Damned, F. Scott Fitzgerald. I came across this while clearing out my car and, I don’t know, I was feeling an old classic.
I Bring a Book to Parties Because I Refuse to Make Small Talk, Cosmopolitan. I get it but also…no. I just couldn’t do it. I would be worrying about being rude the whole time and wondering when I should head back into the fray, so I wouldn’t even relax.
A Black Lady Sketch Show trailer features Angela Bassett among a slew of famous guests, Entertainment Weekly. Oh, I can’t wait for this. Issa Rae as an executive producer? I’m there.
7 Beauty Trends That Will Be Huge in July, PureWow. Already have the neon nails so I’m very here for the neon eyeliner.
Freeform Claps Back at Critics of Halle Bailey's Little Mermaid Casting in Scathing Open Letter, People. Wow, yes, Freeform! Also, I’m so pumped for this movie!!
8 Books We Can’t Wait to Read in July, PureWow. Wow. I want to read ALL of these, except maybe #6 and #8…
Hubble spies slow-motion fireworks in space, CNN. That’s pretty incredible! Also, space travel, or light travel specifically, I guess, is insane.
Not Great, Bob! The Case for Actually Being Honest When People Ask How You Are, Self. “If you struggle with receiving care, consider that when you let people show up for you it's good for you, but it’s good for them too, and in turn could be great for your friendship.”
The Best Way to Stand Out in a Meeting If You’re an Introvert, PureWow. Make yourself speak within the first 10 minutes of the meeting, even if it’s just a question.
Stranger Things Star Natalia Dyer On The Upside-Down Of Fame, Refinery29. I like seeing things from her perspective because I feel she and Heaton, while also getting photographed, are much less in the public eye than the kids. Also, can’t wait to binge “Stranger Things!”
Whitney Houston’s New Song Is a Kygo Remix of Her Unreleased “Higher Love” Cover, Pitchfork. And it’s so goooood!
Your Cheat Sheet to the 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidates, Cosmopolitan. With 20 candidates, you better believe this is needed.
Emma Portner Says She Made "Less Than Minimum Wage" Working With Justin Bieber, Nylon. Daaamn, spill that tea!
‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Action Reboot Now Has Lizzo Bidding For Ursula, Deadline. YES PLEASE.
We Only Need 10 Questions To Determine What % Yeehaw You Actually Are, Buzzfeed. Ok, fine, as a native Arkansan, I was curious!
Listening
Bob Moses. I’ve found they’re great for tuning out the world and focusing on work.
Watching
To be perfectly honest, I was too busy to watch anything last week, which is kind of awesome. I’ll be binging “Stranger Things 3” ASAP though!
Loving
Pure Color Envy Paint-On Liquid LipColor in Controversial, Estée Lauder. I’m living for this lipstick lately. It goes on fully liquid, so you have to be careful when applying, but then it dries completely matte and will not budge for hours on end. Love it. 💋
