Weekly Roundup #35: Sailor Moon and fast food fashion
Last week was a weird week—my normal 3-4 on a scale of 10 back pain leapt to an 8, leaving me incredibly limited in my mobility, which sucked, but I also had a good week at work when it came to working on my pitching skills and my online writing. Luckily, I was able to see a doctor and I'm now on a lovely mix of steroids, muscle relaxers, extra strength anti-inflammatories, plus a brand, spankin' new standing desk, so feeling a lot better, thank you so much for asking. This week, I'll be heading to LA for my grandma's 80th birthday where we'll also get to hang out with a bunch of family I adore and haven't been able to see for awhile. Because of this, I'll be skipping this next week's roundup so I can happily skip all the terrible global news and focus on my family time instead. Have a wonderful week everyone and hit me up with recommendations for easing back pain, shows you love, music you're digging and products you can't live without!

There Was Almost an American Version of 'Sailor Moon,' Paper. Anyone else into this manga series back in the day? I have no idea how I was introduced to it, but I was obsessssed. I even had the Moon Wand. Do yourself a favor and watch the trailer for what the American version became, "Team Angel"...
The Power of Positive People, The New York Times. "...science suggests that our well-being also is influenced by the company we keep." Absofreakinlutely. I've already discussed the terrible effect of a toxic friendship, but this applies to any relationships. My moai may be spread across the country, but thank you to each and every one of you for keeping me happy, sane and excited about life in general. I love you.
You Wear What You Eat, Eater. Let's be real. I'd totally buy some Milk Bar-branded, dessert-themed sneaks.
Unnecessary Pairings: Rom Coms + Beauty Treatments, Into the Gloss. The article you never knew you needed. I'm not a rom com person, but I'll take any excuse to do Baby Foot. Plus, this article led me to the following...

I Made A List Of Everything I've Read This Year & It Changed My Perspective Entirely, Bustle. I can't imagine only reading one genre. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love a thriller, but that's not all I read. I'm pretty open to any type of novel. Speaking of, if y'all ever have any book suggestions, hit me with them in the comments! I'd love recommendations!

Diane von Furstenberg Says Viagra Is the "Worst Thing" to Happen to Women in 15 Years, E! News. Girl, I feel ya. Don't completely agree, but why further the gap in fairness?
Women’s Media Is a Scam, The New Republic. Scandalous. I'll be the first to admit I read Refinery29. There's literally an article from them attached below. Howevvvver, when they first started their "Money Diaries" series, I was also the first to shame it. I read three and never clicked on one again. They're absolutely ridiculous. "This graphic designer makes $78,000 a year, but her husband pays the rent"; "this intern makes $30 an hour and pays $800 for her one bedroom apartment"; "this llama farmer makes $115,000 a year and eats avocado toast for breakfast every day." You get where I'm going with this...they're ridiculous and absolutely, positively infuriating. Relatable content? Please. I wish I was making even $20 an hour, you assholes. Also, Refinery tends to reeeally force that "we're a brand for all people, but definitely mostly feminists." Sometimes I appreciate the liberal, open-minded feminist take, but sometimes I'm like, you didn't have to reiterate that "it's TOTALLY HER CHOICE" to post a selfie. We get it. Everyone should be able to do what they want (as long as it doesn't harm another living thing). They love to shove their tolerant viewpoints in your face, and then down your throat in case you weren't paying attention. However, as I said, I still appreciate the site as a whole, but sometimes, ya gotta give the reader some credit. And you also can't assume every reader makes at least $80,000 and is interested in these supposed contributors living "relatable" lives with their weekly parental loans and endless company cards.
This graphic showing what's inside Nutella will make you never want to eat it again, Insider. Y'all. I LOVE Nutella. I will eat it with a spoon and the whole jar will be gone in three sittings (sometimes two, but let's not discuss that). This makes me want to cry. I mean...no one ever thought it was a health food. At least, I hope not, it's pretty obvious. But palm oil production is killing the environment and now I'm horribly aware that I'm a component of that. Anyone know how to cure a Nutella addiction, STAT?!
How a genealogist helped police crack an infamous 30-year-old cold case, CBS. I'm loving this whole "let's crack a bunch of cold cases with info from public genetic databases" thing. LOVING. IT. And if you're one of those people complaining about the invasion of privacy, hey, don't commit a crime.
Moving Company Employee Walks 20 Miles to First Day of Work, Receives a Free Car, Newsweek. People like all of these people mentioned in the story renew my faith in humanity. ❤️ The tenacity shown by the employee just warms my heart.
Arden Myrin: “Your Idea Of Comedy Is My Idea Of Creepy,” Refinery29. Why. Why must people (men) talk out of their dicks and continually try to tear woman down?
Astronomers have found a new crop of moons around Jupiter, and one of them is a weirdo, The Verge. So many mooons! 🌕 Also, I truly hope one of the scientists has called Valetudo a "weirdo."

Mbappe powers France to World Cup glory, Croatia reeling after VAR controversy, ESPN. The score literally doubled in about 10 minutes of rapid play and that kind of says it all. Soccer (football, sorry, the rest of the world) is such an incredible, difficult sport and I'm so in awe of talented players.
It’s 4 A.M. The Baby’s Coming. But the Hospital Is 100 Miles Away. New York Times. It’s stories like this that make me scared for what our country is coming to and I almost understand why people in the rural parts of the country voted for Trump. Almost. But it would be terrifying to have the only hospital in your area shut down. So many of us take emergency services for granted, what would we do if there was no medical help for miles?
Kentucky restoring Medicaid benefits for thousands, AP. Good call, Bevin...
Measure to split California into three states removed from ballot by the state Supreme Court, Los Angeles Times. Well...no shit.
Both women and men lie about women's earnings, new census report finds, ABC. "The report found that, on average, in households where the wife earned more than the husband, the reports to the Census Bureau showed that women either docked their own pay when they reported it or their husband docked their wife's pay in their own reporting. Both men and women also increased the man's reported pay if the wife earned more." THIS. IS SO. PATHETIC. Ladies, come on. Be proud! And men, Jesus Christ, who fucking cares who makes more money?? Whoever is making money should be proud they are earning money for themselves and their family, no matter the fucking gender. Jesus, this is supremely annoying.
Woman survives 7 days after SUV plunges off cliff in Big Sur, CNN. Hot damn, I am SO impressed. I would never have thought to use any hose or car parts in general, for that matter, just not knowledgable enough for that.
Luxury Brands Prefer to Burn Millions of Dollars' Worth of Clothes to Letting 'Wrong' Shoppers Buy Them at Discount, Newsweek. What? What?? WHAT? It's not totally what you think, this headline is a bit clickbait-y. They're speaking more to not letting the "wrong people" purchase the clothes, as in people who will counterfeit the designs because the brand doesn't have complete control over it, etc. But, hello, do we not waste enough?!

Trump questions US intel, not Putin, on Russia 2016 meddling, AP. You massive, dithering Cheeto puff. He simply doesn't want to admit his "brilliant campaign" isn't a thing.
The most shameful, stunning moment of the Trump presidency, CNN. Honestly I don't think this is "the most" shameful or stunning moment. There are just so many to choose from and I wouldn't say this is the winner.
Trump, facing fury, says he misspoke with Putin, CNN. He tried to say he accidentally didn't use a double negative...just to clarify. 😂
Trump's 'No' About Russian Interference Requires Yet More Clarification, NPR. Oh, Donald, what do they have on you?
MGM sues more than 1,000 victims of Las Vegas shooting, denying liability for the massacre, CNBC. Dude. You can't sue victims of a shooting. Just man up and fight your fight in the cases. Once you win one, it's likely you'd win the others. Because, really, I don't think the fault is on MGM here. Really what more could have been done? Let me know in the comments if I'm missing something though!
Austrian Far-Right Lawmaker Proposes Jews 'Register' If They Want to Buy Kosher Meat, Newsweek. Why do these cockroaches exist? Also, ever read a history book? I'm thoroughly nauseated.
Germans rally in Jewish skullcaps to protest anti-Semitic attack, Reuters. And this is why we must keep fighting anti-Semitism, anti-Islamic, anti-LGBTQIA, racists and all these other abhorrent people. Because individuals continue to think they have societal permission to attack these groups and that is not okay.
Spain to introduce ‘yes means yes’ sexual consent law, The Guardian. YES!
Wrestlers sue Ohio State over doctor's alleged sexual misconduct, ESPN. "...might have assaulted 1,500 or more male students at Ohio State." Even one would be too many.

‘They are shooting at a church’: Inside the 15-hour siege by Nicaraguan paramilitaries on university students, The Washington Post. There is no excuse, none, for these atrocities. There have been protests in America by despicable groups of people and I may hate every word out of their mouths, but everyone has a right to peaceful protests. Outside of peaceful, you're crossing a line, but these are students. They tried to speak out against the abhorrent actions of their government and have seen death and pain as a result.

Closure, Vancouver Sleep Clinic. Came across this on the above song's radio station and I diiiig it.
Bionic, Eric Hayes. This is a snippet of a song by a friend and I can't wait to hear the full thing!
Testing
Trying a new section here: I tried a CBD oil finally last week to try and ease my back pain. It didn't work for the particular issues I was dealing with, but I'll definitely be keeping it on hand for future muscle aches. I chose the lemongrass scent and it's very spa-like, so fairly relaxing off the fragrance alone. I'll update with the brand if I see progress in any soreness and fall in love with it.
I also recently switched to a new serum I've been wanting to use for a while. I haven't seen any noticeable difference as of yet, but it's only been a couple weeks and you should always give new skincare products at least a month, but more like two, to see any changes. Stay tuned, loves.
