Weekly Roundup #52: Tushy and GOOP

Reading

The Age of Reinvention, Karine Tuil. The characters can be so frustrating, but, ultimately, they break your heart.

Cheeky ads get straight flush from MTA, NY Daily News. I’m crying. This is incredible. “Consider my hole life changed.” 🍑 Side note: this product comes from controversial THINX co-founder, Miki Agrawal.

Blink Beauty: Indie Beauty Awards 2018, PureWow. I clearly have a thing for beauty awards.

South Korea Loves Plastic Surgery and Makeup. Some Women Want to Change That. The New York Times. On the dark side of beauty...I thought the American standard of beauty was bad. It’s devastating to know that, on the other side of the world, young women, or girls even, feel so much pressure to not only look beautiful and feminine, but to have plastic surgery to attain the expectation of their society. I give so much credit to those brave women willing to stand on the front lines of that fight. It takes so much courage when you know exactly how those sad, pathetic trolls will come after you.

The Most Absurd Items From Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP Gift Guide, Betches. The fact that there is someone out there who just got so excited over a rose quartz vagina egg truly brings me joy. (You cannot infuse your vagina with positive energy in order to love your partner more. Dump them.)

This Year’s Holiday Decor Trend Is Totally Unexpected (and Way Fun!), PureWow. Yes! Love it, love it, love it, love itttttt! Too bad I already started buying classically-colored décor…

23andMe Informed Me My Husband and I Are Related, The Cut. I guess this was supposed to be a sweet piece on the writer’s marriage, but it was just…weird. It was almost like the whole reason for the article (possible relation) was just a footnote of the story, despite it being the headline.

Are You a Social Uplifter? (It’s the Most Authentic Way to Instagram), PureWow. Let’s all be.

5 Minutes with Shannon Purser, Wonderland. She must be a good actress because I don’t hate her, but I haaaaate Ethel.

Everything We Know About Lala Kent's Vanderpump Rules Man, Randall Emmett, Refinery29. Yaaaasss, try to convince me she could actually love him! Don’t get me wrong, I kind of like Lala, well, mostly her no bullshit, “I’ma call you out, homegirl” vibes, but I just cannot believe the reality of this relationship. She’s way too hot for him. And young. Ok, fine, they’ve been together for years, but, just…nah.

People Are Angry The Cut Published An Article That Said Priyanka Chopra Is A Scam Artist, Buzzfeed. I didn’t see The Cut article until they’d already deleted the text, but, according to my coworkers, it was pretty brutal. And, woof, judging from the comments, few people agree. Apparently the writer is pretty known for hating on female celebs though. Maybe think things through a little more next time before hitting publish, ok, editors?

You Have All the Money—Why Are You Sponsoring Your Wedding? Glamour. Howevvvver, while I think the above article was over-the-top, sponsored wedding GROSS. ME. OUT. I can’t imagine having to twist my words, events, photos and more to the liking of some brand in order to give them a shout out so they’ll sponsor my wedding. It sleeves me out. That should be one of the happiest days of your life. I would be running for the hills if some vodka brand wanted me to post some clearly inauthentic photo about how much “my girls and I love kicking off our night with [insert brand here]!” It’s also just insulting to people who actually can’t afford their dream wedding. It’s one thing if it’s a brand you actually love and use, but the idea of Nick Jonas actually thinking the perfect groomsmen gift was a lime green scooter? Give me a break. Celebs already get dressed for free, they “borrow” millions of dollars worth of jewels, sent luxe products—it cannot be worth it to also stamp your wedding with desperate brands. That’s just my very strong opinion though.

6 Trends That Will Be Huge in December, PureWow. And here I was thinking I was way behind on the teddy bear coat trend…turns out I was ahead of it. 💁🏼‍♀️

Will Ferrell Continues The Legend Of Ron Burgundy With New Podcast, Deadline. I will be tuning in. Stay classy, readers.

Stocking Stuffer Alert: Target Now Has Mini (and We Mean *Mini*) Jars of Nutella, PureWow. I NEED THESE!! Please, everyone get me at least one. I’m begging you.

‘Black Mirror’ Season 5 Has A Release Date, Nylon. AHHHHHHHHH!!! Also, I don’t think I can handle another video game episode if it’s anything like “Playtest,” so fingers crossed this one is a little more…light-hearted? It’s Black Mirror so I’m not keeping my hopes up.

20 Things All Early-’00s Teens Desperately Wanted For Christmas, Buzzfeed. Omg, Paul Frank. Also, I still wouldn’t mind getting a new pair of UGGs…that shit is comfy.

Chrissy Teigen Isn’t About To Let Bootcut Jeans Be Trendy Again, Nylon. I mean…you do you, people, but I will be sticking with my skinny and straight leg jeans. I have spend TOO MUCH on my collection to go back now!

Fork Yes! ‘The Good Place’ Is Officially Getting a 4th Season, PureWow. Wahoo!

How a future Trump Cabinet member gave a serial sex abuser the deal of a lifetime, Miami Herald. Absolutely disgusting. I honestly can’t even write more because I’m so thoroughly horrified.

Listening

How Did This Get Made? Earwolf. This podcast is delightful. I have to admit, I’d heard of it before, but it was only when I read an article on “what podcast you should listen to according to your sign,” and this one came up for me, that I finally downloaded a bunch of episodes. I’ve been binging it ever since.

Lolo Zouaï. I read about her in this Wonderland article and decided to check her out. My favorite by her is “Brooklyn Love.” I love love love it.

Loving

Your 2018 Wrapped, Spotify. I’m not ashamed to admit I look forward to this every year. I find it fascinating and so enlightening. Apparently, my favorite genre is Indie Poptimism, which I feel is V. accurate. What were your favorite songs?? Who were your favorite artists??
